The center has many volunteers, including doctors, IT specialists, retired healthcare professionals and many other volunteers from the community that have a heart for the mission of Good Samaritan.

Volunteer – The Center uses volunteers throughout the clinic. You do not need to be a medical professional to volunteer.

Good Samaritan relies on the donations and grants of individuals, businesses, churches, government, and foundations to continue our work. We are not a government agency; all programs are funded solely through the support of the community.

Good Samaritan is a 501(c)(3) charitable non-profit organization, so all donations are tax-deductible to the extent provided by law.

What is a Federally Qualified Health Center?
A Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) is more commonly known as a Community Health Center (CHC), and is a primary care center that is community-based. By mission and design, CHCs exist to serve those who have limited access to health care, although all are welcome. Unlike most private practices, CHCs welcome low income individuals, the uninsured and underinsured, those who are homeless, and those who live in public housing. Good Samaritan Health and Wellness Center is a locally-based nonprofit oranization governed by a board of directors comprised of area volunteers. Payment for services is based on ability to pay.

The official establishment of community health centers began in the 1960s. President Johnson established what was initially called “neighborhood health centers.” The goal of these clinics was to provide access points to health and social services to medically under-served populations. The health centers were intended to serve as a mechanism for community empowerment. Accordingly, federal funds for the clinics flowed directly to nonprofit, community-level organizations. The health centers were designed and run with extensive community involvement to ensure that they remain responsive to community needs. Currently, to address the widespread lack of access to basic health care, Community Health Centers serve over 23 million people at more than 9,000 sites located throughout all 50 states and U. S. territories.

Do our patients pay for services?
All patients are charged a fee based on their ability to pay. We use a sliding scale for uninsured patients and we accept Medicare, Medicaid, and some private insurers to be determined.

Does the clinic serve patients outside of Pickens County?
Yes. There are no residential restrictions to become a patient at Good Samaritan.
